
On May 23, 2017, Former Apex Friendship High School student, Tahira "Abi" Hyman hosted a substance abuse panel for the first junior class at Apex Friendship High. The discussion consisted of an educational PowerPoint spoke by former student counselor Saparillas. The assembly continued with an open panel discussion for students. The panel consisted of a Substance Abuse counselor Hollan Steen, Resource Officer Stone, and Owner of Peak City Grill Steven Adams. The students were given about 20 minutes to ask any questions to the panel board. Through this open discussion, many students and parents were excited about the conversation taking place in an open safe space for students.
In June 2017, Opioids to Rest, INC was founded by Former Apex Friendship Student, Tahira "Abi" Hyman. Opioids to Rest, INC is a thriving nonprofit organization geared towards educating middle and high school students to understand how to overcome and avoid substance abuse. Opioids to Rest, INC is firm on the belief that change begins with education. Opioids to Rest, INC is focused on educating students and providing students the chance to voice their concerns and questions to relatable professionals. Opioids to Rest, INC believes students can be reached through love, hope, and guidance. Through diverse interactions, engagements, and opportunities, students of all ages will be able to gain insight and education for long-term success.
